Privacy Policy
Last Updated: October 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Tonefold ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the Tonefold mobile application on Android and iOS (including when the iOS app runs on a Mac via Apple's Designed for iPad).
1. About Tonefold
Tonefold is an offline-first photo editor available on Android and iOS that lets you:
- Select photos from your gallery or take a new photo with the camera
- Edit photos with adjustments, filters, drawing tools, and on-device AI-style effects (such as background removal)
- Save edited photos to your device (for example, to your photo library, Pictures/Tonefold, or via a Mac file save panel) and share them through your device's system share sheet
- Keep recent edits and custom look presets on your device
- Optionally receive a local reminder notification if you have not opened the app for about a day
- View banner and interstitial advertisements
- Browse optional links to other apps from the same developer
2. Information We Collect
Tonefold does not require an account and does not ask you to provide your name, email address, phone number, precise location, contacts, microphone access, or health information.
2.1 Photos and Media (Processed On Your Device)
Important: Your photos are processed on your device. Tonefold does not upload your personal photos to our servers.
- Photo library access: Used so you can choose images to edit.
- Camera access: Used so you can capture a new photo for editing.
- On-device editing: Effects and AI-style features (including subject cutout using an on-device model) run locally on your device.
- Temporary edit working copy: While you edit, the app may keep a temporary local copy of the selected photo (or a high-quality version of it) in the app's private storage so it can apply edits and, when possible, save at a higher resolution than the on-screen preview. This copy stays on your device and is not uploaded to Tonefold servers.
- Export and share: Saved images are written to your device storage or photo library (or, on Mac, to a location you choose in the system save panel). Sharing uses your device's system share sheet to apps you choose; we do not operate a cloud photo upload service for your edits.
- Recent edits: The app may keep a limited local cache of recent edit thumbnails and metadata on your device so you can reopen recent work. When you save to the gallery or Photos, the app may also store a local reference (such as a gallery URI or Photos asset identifier) so you can optionally delete that saved file when you remove an entry from History.
2.2 Local App Preferences and Cache
The app stores preference and cache data locally on your device so features work as expected. This may include:
- Custom look presets (adjustment values; not your photo library)
- Recent-edit metadata, local thumbnail files, and optional gallery/Photos identifiers
- Language / locale preference for the app
- Whether optional open reminders are enabled
- Local advertising cooldown timestamps (for example, when an interstitial was last shown)
- Local advertising consent status stored by Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) SDK after you respond to a consent or privacy message (where required)
We do not upload these local preferences or your recent-edit photos to our servers.
2.3 Advertising, Consent Messaging, and Device Information
Tonefold uses Google AdMob to display banner and interstitial advertisements on Android and iOS. Before ads are initialized, Tonefold uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request an update of consent information and, when required (for example in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland), to present Google's privacy / consent message forms configured in AdMob Privacy & messaging.
Google AdMob and related Google advertising services may collect or process information such as device identifiers, advertising identifiers (for example, Google Advertising ID on Android or Identifier for Advertisers / IDFA on iOS where permitted), IP address, approximate location inferred from IP address, app interactions, ad views, diagnostics, consent choices, and other data described in Google's policies.
Google's handling of advertising and consent data is governed by Google's own privacy policies and consent requirements. Where the UMP SDK indicates that a privacy options entry point is required, Tonefold shows an in-app Ad privacy options control so you can review or change your ad consent choices.
On Android, you can also manage advertising identifiers and ad personalization in your Google settings. On iOS, you can manage App Tracking Transparency and related privacy settings in iOS Settings.

2.4 Analytics, Crash Reporting, and Remote Configuration
Tonefold integrates Google Firebase services, which may process technical information to help us operate and improve the app:
- Firebase Analytics: May collect app usage and device/app technical information according to Google's policies.
- Firebase Crashlytics: May collect crash reports and related diagnostic data to help us fix bugs.
- Firebase Remote Config: Used for configuration such as version and update-required flags. It is not used to upload your photos.
These services may receive identifiers and diagnostic data as described in Google's Firebase and Google privacy documentation. We do not use Firebase to create an account for you or to store your photos.
2.5 Developer App Catalog Request
The app may request a public list of other developer apps from https://healthplate.org/api/projects. This request does not require an account and does not send your photos or edit history. When thumbnails are available, the app may load those thumbnail images over the network.
Like most web requests to healthplate.org, our server may receive standard technical information such as IP address, request time, and user agent string for security, reliability, and server operations.
2.6 Local Notifications
If you allow notifications and enable the optional reminder, Tonefold may schedule a local on-device notification (for example, about 24 hours after you last opened the app). Reminder content is generic and does not include your photos. These reminders are scheduled locally and are not push messages from our servers.
3. How We Use Information
We use information only to operate and improve the app experience:
- Provide photo editing, export, and share features on your device
- Remember local preferences, recent edits, and presets
- Obtain and honor advertising consent choices through Google UMP where required, then show advertisements through Google AdMob
- Measure stability and basic usage through Firebase services
- Deliver remote configuration such as update prompts
- Display links and thumbnails for other apps from the same developer when available
- Maintain security, troubleshoot server issues, and prevent abuse of public endpoints
4. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your photos or local Tonefold edit data with third parties for their own marketing.
Information may be processed by third-party services used by the app, including Google AdMob, Google User Messaging Platform, Google Firebase, and platform services from Google Play or the Apple App Store, as described in their own privacy policies. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or services.
If you share an edited photo through your device's system share sheet, the destination app you choose is responsible for its own handling of that content.
5. Third-Party Services
Tonefold uses or may interact with the following third-party services:
- Google AdMob: Displays banner and interstitial advertisements on Android and iOS and may process advertising identifiers and ad interaction data.
- Google User Messaging Platform (UMP): Presents consent and privacy messages (for example GDPR / EEA-related messaging configured in AdMob) and stores consent status used to determine whether personalized or non-personalized ads may be requested.
- Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config): Provides analytics, crash reporting, and remote configuration.
- Google Play / Apple App Store: Distribute the app and may provide platform services such as in-app review prompts and updates.
- Device backup services: If enabled on your device, Android/Google backup or Apple iCloud / device backup features may back up app data according to your device and account settings.
We encourage you to review Google's privacy policy, AdMob disclosures, UMP documentation, Firebase disclosures, and Apple's privacy documentation for more information about those parties' data practices.
6. Data Retention
Your photos, recent-edit cache, temporary edit working copies, presets, preferences, and local consent status remain on your device until you delete them, clear app data, or uninstall the app. Exported photos saved to your gallery or Photos remain under your device storage control. If you delete a History entry and choose to also remove the linked gallery/Photos file, the app will request deletion of that saved asset through the platform APIs (the system may ask you to confirm).
We do not keep a server copy of your Tonefold photos or edit history.
Server logs for requests to healthplate.org, and data retained by Google advertising, UMP, or Firebase services, may be retained according to those services' policies and our operational needs for security and diagnostics.
7. Your Choices and Rights
- You can deny or revoke camera, photos, and notification permissions in your Android or iOS device settings.
- You can delete exported photos from your gallery or Photos app, delete History entries in the app (optionally including the linked saved photo when available), and clear local app data by uninstalling the app or clearing app storage (Android) / offloading or deleting the app (iOS).
- You can turn off optional open reminders in the app where that control is offered.
- Where required, you can manage advertising consent through Google's consent / privacy message forms and, when shown, the in-app Ad privacy options control.
- You can reset or limit advertising identifiers and manage ad personalization or tracking in your Google settings (Android) or iOS privacy / tracking settings (iOS).
- You can contact us with privacy questions or data requests using the contact information below.
8. Children's Privacy
Tonefold is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. The app does not require accounts and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). The advertising SDK is configured as not tagged for users under the age of consent. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.
Advertising, consent messaging, and analytics are provided by Google. Parents and guardians should review device-level ad, tracking, and privacy settings on Android or iOS as appropriate.
9. Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect our services. Local app data is protected by the Android or iOS app sandbox and device security features. Because editing happens on-device, your photos are not transmitted to Tonefold servers for processing. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. International Users
If you use Tonefold outside the United States, information processed by third-party services or our public server endpoints may be processed in the United States or other countries where those services operate. In regions where privacy laws require consent for personalized advertising (such as the EEA, UK, or Switzerland), Google's UMP messaging may be shown before ads are requested.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the updated policy.
